I'm not a music critic, so no poetic/romantic words to describe the CD. I first saw the PBS special, directed by Spike Lee, and was hooked. Its years later, and I finally got the CD. Listening to the music brings back all the images from the show.
I love this CD. When I am feeling a little blue I put it on and bop around to Zombie Jamboree and it makes me laugh. I'm sure plenty of morning commute drivers in Tampa have seen me and just wonder what is going on. The version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight is fantastic, and Higher and Higher is my other favorite although there isn't a bad song in the bunch.
This is a great CD. I heard it first when I was 18 years old. The songs were so appealing that even years later I had to hunt down the name of the CD and buy it.Fantastic singing with a wide range of songs. Very fun.Zombee Jamborie and God Bless Africa are my favorites.
This genre of music is underrated, but the sound is amazing and all from the human voice. Kudos to Mr. Spike Lee. My personal fav is the Mint Juleps, they remind me of the Ethiopian women who sing while they gather food from their land. This is a lifetime investment.
they were trying to be humble as to who they were ,but it didnt work. tonight im going to probably buy a album from them. i remember them as a kid but tonight i was on the ferry coming back to seattle and these wonderful singers were practacing in the little building before you get on the boat. i listened and it made me want to go out an buy anything of theirs. i only wish i had gotten their autographs, but they didnt want people to know they were around.
